Last Monday, March 3rd I had my image consultation with Jae and it was a phenomenal experience from start to finish. This is a pretty amazing service he is offering at a ridiculously cheap price.
Now I was a little skeptical when I first signed up just because of the really low price, I thought it would be some sort of generic fashion walkthrough. However, it is the complete opposite. Jae puts a lot of effort into tailoring the session to your specific needs. Even before you meet you will exchange a number of emails regarding your goals, what look you are going for, any particular areas you would like to focus on, etc. He also requests that you send him pictures of your existing closet space so he can get an idea of your current style and see the pieces you already own. It was clear that he spent a lot of time analyzing the pictures I sent because he gave me a valuable critique of everything I owned. Jae really goes out of his way to individualize the session.
On the day of my consultation we met at noon at a hotel lobby in midtown. We sat there and talked for a while, went over more about what image I wanted to project, and discussed what we'd be accomplishing that day. He really tries to get a sense of who you are, what you're about, and what your lifestyle is like in order to ultimately come up with a unique style that both looks great and is congruent with your personality. He showed me a bunch of looks he pulled out of fashion magazines that he thought I could pull off. He also gave me a folder full of handouts on subjects such as closet organizing, putting together outfits, and body language. I also want to mention that even though it is called a "Fashion Consultation" it is not just about fashion. Jae is really coaching you on the first impression you give to the world, which is a lot more than just the clothes on your back. He gave me a lot of useful feedback on my body language, vocal tonality, posture, eye contact, and grooming.
From here we grabbed some food. I picked his brain about how he developed his sense of fashion. It was definitely an interesting lunch, which is another point I wanted to make -- aside from his fashion expertise, Jae is just a really cool guy to hang out with in general, so your consultation will be both fun and educational at the same time. After eating we went to stores such as Abercrombie, Gap, Zara, Bloomingdales, Aldo, Club Monaco, Genesis, and more. I won't go into too much detail about my exact experience because I want you to sign up and have your own, but it was extremely eye-opening to be shopping next to a fashion guru. Just to see how he goes about picking out certain pieces was enlightening. It might sound funny to say that, but no one ever taught me this stuff before, I used to just wander around the mall aimlessly, hoping to stumble upon something I liked. Now I know to shop with a purpose, and more importantly, I have a much better idea of what exactly to look for, what styles and color s work well for me, how things should fit, etc. Every time I put on a good outfit Jae snapped a picture so I would have it for future reference. The next day he sent me an email with all the photos attached as a zip file plus wrote a lengthy recap of everything we went over, including things to remember, my personal strengths and weaknesses, stores and websites to check out, and other pointers to keep in mind, etc. Again this is not a generic post-consultation email, Jae takes a lot of time to personalize your experience. Even after you're done he offers 6 months of free email support in case you ever have questions.
Shoes, t-shirts, dress shirts, blazers, belts, bracelet, scarf, necklace, sunglasses – I really covered all the bases! Before you get nervous, you are NOT required to buy that much stuff during your consultation, or anything at all for that matter. Jae just points you in the right direction, and teaches you how to shop. He gave me a lot of suggestions, but whether or not I bought something was ultimately up to me. If all you can afford is the consultation fee, you are not out of luck, you would still learn a ton just by shopping with him and trying things on. You will have the photos for future reference and can go back and make purchases once you save up the money.
Whew, this post is getting pretty long so I'll wrap it up. In closing, when all was said and done, this consultation was the best money I have spent in a long time. And I'm not just saying that to be nice. If I thought it wasn't worthwhile, I would have no problem telling you. But I really felt like I made a TON of progress in only 8 hours. I learned so much that I really want to register for a second consultation sometime in the future. If you are on the fence about signing up, just do it, I guarantee you will not regret it!"
